Healthy eating and fund raising for 2017, Lajina Masala Style

Wednesday, November 16th, 2016

That’s right, goal setting is on my mind, having never really been one to set goals, possibly because I was brought up to believe in Karma and the only goal that really mattered was ensuring you went to a better place after death.

My own life experience and setting up my business has opened so many doors and shown me opportunities that I didn’t even know existed, as if the last three years’ weren’t spectacular enough, I have decided to raise funds for a charity and get healthy at the same time.

This isn’t the first time I will raise funds or do something out of my comfort zone, but it’s the first time I will set myself a huge challenge and actually plan for it. Recently,  I had a health scare which frightened me a little, but having had every test come back with good results, I knew it’s the time to tackle my weight, which is a direct result of my love of cake, I feel very fortunate that my results have all come clear.

Tandem Sky Dive is what I have decided to do.  Why would I do that?  Why is it even relevant to curry making and teaching people to cook Indian Food? Tandem Sky Dive means I will be strapped to somebody (I have total sympathy for the poor person whose going to hear me giggle, scream, cry in their ear) and then we jump out of a plane at 10,000 feet.  That’s a relatively low drop and you have the comfort of being strapped to an expert so it’s not “THAT” scary, but here comes the scariest bit, I am just too heavy for the sky dive.

Luckily, I can spice my way to a healthy weight, refraining from carbohydrates and sugar will be difficult, but I have so much support and guidance that it will all be fine.

My blogs about the healthy meals and exercise I have planned in the new year shall be shared with you soon, so if you have any tips or need recipe advice, please let me know.

When employed as an accountant, I worked in social housing for years and heard many horror stories of homelessness so it was only natural that my chosen charity will be Kipbag, totally humbling and heart breaking that in this day and age we still have so many living on the streets.   A little comfort in the form of a sleeping bag, giving hope that one day things can be better.  A small donation of just £15, pays for a kipbag and some toiletries to offer some dignity.  Here’s the website for more information;- https://www.kipbag.com/

The National Advice for the homeless is to sleep on cardboard or matting and a Kipbag is a practical solution, offering a little comfort instantly, without any judgements, wouldn’t you agree?

So, I am looking forward to the months ahead, where I start experimenting with healthy Indian dishes by creating super delicious alternatives to our favourites as I won’t be compromising on flavour, don’t worry, I will be sticking to my usual home-style of simple cooking with ingredients we all recognise.

  1. Truly humbled that you chose my charity, Lajina.

Great blog post. Congratulations on making this big decision; I certainly wouldn’t have the courage to do a skydive. Good luck. I know you can do it.

Aah, Chris, choosing Kipbag was a natural choice, saying thank you for your generous support. I am not thinking about the skydive, there’s way too much fat fighting to happen first!
