Yule Adore a little Spice This Christmas – Day Ten

Sunday, December 10th, 2017

Day Ten of my Advent Calendar takes me to a gloriously winter’s day, with inches of snow.

It’s snow joke here in beautiful Shropshire and Mr Leal himself got me with a snowball fight.  Sam’s at uni so we ventured out into the cold to play like kids.

We aren’t the only ones who have been out to enjoy the crisp and crunchy snow. It’s truly magical and feels like Chrismas and look who we found?

A true work of art and just goes to show how cold and deep it is in our neighbourhood!  Such a lovely walk with lots of happy people.

When we got back, I decided to make some lovely hot chocolate, spiced with a tiny pinch of garam masala.  I made a mix of 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon of sugar, a tiny pinch of garam masala, mixed this with 1/4 mug of water and poured this mix into a mug and half of boiling milk.  It was delicious, so warming and a lovely treat from the cold.

Garam masala should be used sparingly, it’s a home blend of spices that I roast and grind.  It’s a traditional spice, bold and quite special. Wherever allspice is required in a recipe, I will use this instead, but just the tiniest pinch.

Happy spicing and Ho Ho Ho!
